Therapy
I offer neurodivergence-affirming, trauma-informed therapy and support for adult clients. We can meet in-person at my Brisbane practice, or via Telehealth.
A core value in my work is that our process is collaborative. I am not the boss of you or the expert on your life. I also value transparency and authenticity, and endeavour to centre these in therapeutic relationships. I welcome folks from all backgrounds, abilities, shapes, sizes and colours of the rainbow. (Read: All cultures, all genders, all folk from LGBTQI+ communities and all intersectional identities are welcome).
I'm not the kind of therapist that takes a highly structured, by-the-manual approach. I am likely not the best fit if this is the style of therapy you prefer (I'm not throwing shade here - I'm being transparent. I respect and admire therapists who can work this way, it's just not how my brain operates). The exception to this is EMDR when we're working on treating complex trauma. EMDR is a very protocol-based kinda guy.
Therapy with me is usually more like this: I bring myself and my knowledge, training, experience, skills and frameworks. You bring yourself and what's going on for you - this of course includes your own knowledge, experience, skills and frameworks. We are two humans; two nervous systems - we sit together in the mess of life and existence. We work in relationship to make meaning, connect to the core of your humanity, find and nurture growth, hold and look after pain, and cheer on the wins.
What can I help with?
-
Adjusting to being identified as Autistic/ADHD/neurodivergent - exploring identity, accommodating one's self, curating a life that meets one's needs.
-
Developing self-compassion and self-acceptance.
-
Building skills in self-advocacy, boundary-setting and communication.
-
Burnout recovery and prevention.
-
Supporting fellow neurodivergent health professionals with self-care, compassion fatigue, stress management and burnout.
What therapy frameworks do I use?
Therapy and support is always tailored to the goals of each individual client and their presenting needs, concerns and histories. This means that I often draw from a range of therapy frameworks and tools, including:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
-
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT).
-
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) - note, at present I only offer this in-person and not via Telehealth.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS).
-
Narrative Therapy.
What is out of my scope?
-
Treatment/therapy with clients who are experiencing active suicidality or who present with high risk. For transparency, this is because my work hours are very limited. This unfortunately means I don't have suitable availability for support during crises or to assist with case management/team care.
-
Treatment/therapy for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
-
Treatment/therapy for Eating Disorders (EDs) and/or disordered eating.
-
Perinatal psychology (therapy in the perinatal period - before, during and after having a baby).
-
Therapy/support for people going through (or potentially going through) family court proceedings.
How do I book in?
Great question - you may have noticed that there isn't an option to book a therapy session via the online calendar. I am really passionate about ensuring clients get the best-matched care possible, so whilst I know it's annoying, I ask that you email me. It's helpful to get a brief overview of what you are looking for support with, as this helps me assess whether I have the right experience and training to be able to help.
So yes. I don't mean to be a punisher, but please do send me a brief email (kaleidoscopeassessment@gmail.com) and I'll get back to you.
